The Sealed Nectar

The Sealed Nectar by Shaykh Safi ur-Rahman

Prophet Muhammad’s love of the poor

The Prophet (s.a.a.w.) enjoined upon Muslims to treat the poor kindly and to help them with alms, Zakat, and in other ways. He said: “He is not a perfect Muslim who eats his fill and lets his neighbor go hungry.”
He asked, “Do you love your Creator? Then love your fellow beings first.”

Monopoly is unlawful in Islam and he preached that “It is difficult for a man laden with riches to climb the steep path that leads to bliss.”

what is islam

Muslims and the Islamic religion are in the spotlight this week at KU. It is Islam awareness week on campus, and the Muslim Student Association will host events throughout the week.

“The purpose is to educate people on Islam and Muslims,” said Iesha Kincaid, the president of Muslim Student Association. “There are a lot of stereotypes and misconceptions out there so we hope to show what Islam is really about and get rid of some of those stereotypes and misconceptions.”

Giving a part of Ud-hiyah to non-Muslim neighbors

Q 1: If a neighbor is a Kafir (non-Muslim), but he never disturbs me with regard to ‘Ibadah (worship); is it permissible to give him from the Ud-hiyah (sacrificial animal offered by non-pilgrims) and from the ‘Aqiqah (sacrifice for a newborn)? Respected Shaykh, we hope you will clarify this issue for us.

A: It is permissible to give a Kafir from the meat of an Ud-hiyah or ‘Aqiqah, as a way of showing kindness to the neighbor and fulfilling our Islamic duty as neighbors. May Allah grant us success! May peace and blessings be upon our Prophet, his family and Companions!

Ruling on pilgrims and non-pilgrims fasting on the Day of ‘Arafah

Respected Shaykh, many people think that observing Sawm (Fast) on the Day of ‘Arafah (9th of Dhul-Hijjah) is to be accompanied by observing Sawm on the eighth of Dhul-Hijjah; please advise?

A: The Day of ‘Arafah can be fasted separately, which has a great merit as Allah (Exalted be He) expiates by it the sins of the year before and after it. As for pilgrims, it is impermissible for them to observe Sawm on the Day of ‘Arafah because the Prophet (peace be upon him) stood on that day without observing Sawm.

The U.S. pastor behind “International Burn a Koran Day” said he would “possibly” try again to enter Canada after border officers turned him back Thursday as he was on his way to speak in Toronto.

“We will see,” Terry Jones said in an interview. “We were looking forward to coming there and we were looking forward to speaking. … We were definitely disappointed and we were surprised.”

Allaah Has Legislated acts of worship and rituals for great wisdom and important purposes. These acts of worship purify the souls and hearts and bring the slave closer to Allaah. There are common meanings that are shared by all acts of worship, while there are other specific ones that are peculiar to every act of worship.

One of the great acts of worship is Hajj that has great secrets and wisdom that should be realized, felt and contemplated by the pilgrims while performing this obligatory act of worship so that its objective and effect would be achieved.

The Prophet’s treatment of the people during Hajj

The manner in which the Prophet sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ) treated his people during the Hajj is indeed astonishingly magnanimous. He sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ) educated and led the masses simultaneously. It is needless to say that his deeds always measured up to his teachings. Every thing he sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ) did was an indication of his greatness and nobility. Here are some examples:

The Ka’bah: The first house of worship –I

Every year, more than 2.5 million Muslim pilgrims from across the world perform the rites of Hajj in Makkah where the Ka'bah is located. Literally, Ka'bah (which simply means ‘cube’) is much more than a cube-shaped building draped in black. It is the symbol of Islamic unity and at the heart of Islam and in particular the principle of Monotheism upon which it is based. Referred to as Al-Bayt Al-Haraam (The Sacred House) and Al-Bayt Al-Ateeq (The ‘Ancient’ or ‘Independent’ House) in the Quran, the Ka'bah has a unique place in the life of any Muslim.
