Adhere to teachings of the Quran, Muslims reminded

SERIAN: Muslims in the state are reminded to adhere to the teachings of the Quran and use it as a living guide.

Head of State Tun Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud said this at the state-level Nuzul Al-Quran held at Serian District Mosque Tuesday night.

“The teachings contained in the Quran will not decay with the passing time. All the teachings are the revelation of Allah that are passed down to Muslims through Prophet Muhammad to guide them to attain happiness in this world and in the hereafter,” he said.

As such, he said Muslims should understand the contents of the Quran and translate them into their everyday life.

“Only in that way can Muslims achieve success and enjoy a good life,” he added.

The Nuzul Al-Quran is conducted every Ramadan. It provides an opportunity and an avenue for Muslims to commemorate the struggles and sacrifices of Prophet Muhammad in spreading Islam.

“Our society is constantly changing according to the times. Living in a more developed society, we should use the power of knowledge and know how to distinguish between good and bad in line with the teachings of our respective religions,” he said.

He added there were lessons in the Quran that carried very deep meaning and would bring into realisation the need to improve oneself and to strengthen unity and promote Islam.

This year’s Nuzul Al-Quran is themed ‘Unity Is The Pulse Of The Nation’s Transformation’.

It is held in Serian, the state’s 12th division which was declared in April last year.

The ceremony began with the recital of the Surah Yassin led by Imam of the State Mosque, Ustaz Dato Mohd Jorgi Suhaili, followed by the breaking of fast, Marghib, Isyak and Terawih prayers and then dinner.

Toh Puan Datuk Patinggi Raghad Kurdi Taib, Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Amar Abang Johari Tun Openg, his wife Datin Amar Jumaani Tuanku Bujang, Sarawak Islamic Council president Datu Misnu Taha, Assistant Minister for Public Utilities (Electricity and Telecommunication) Dr Abdul Rahman Junaidi and deputy State Secretary Datu Ismawi Ismuni were also present.
