Maulana Anisur Rahman Qasmi, director of Patna-based Imarat-e Shariah and member of executive committee of the All India Muslim Personal Law Board, has said media is targeting Islamic laws and using the media, a section of the society is demanding a change in Islamic laws.

“Using the media, a section of the society is demanding a change in Islamic laws due to little knowledge and seeking to implement Uniform Civil Code in the country. This is a direct attack on the freedom of religion,” Qasmi told a press conference here on Saturday, March 7, 2015.

Imarat-E Shariah Phulwari Sharif is a social, religious and welfare organization, working in Bihar, Jharkhand, Odisha and West Bengal for almost nine decades.

Imarat-e Shariah Phulwari Sharif and AIMPLB jointly runs a campaign programme throughout eastern India to remove the misconception about Islam, Shariah and Muslims, Maulana Anisur Rahman said during the press conference. They met advocates and media persons to sort out the doubts through discussion in the light of Islamic law and Shariah. “But it is a fact that lack of knowledge about Islam leads to suspicion,” the leaders said.
