The Sealed Nectar

The Sealed Nectar by Shaykh Safi ur-Rahman

20.The Migration of the Prophet (peace be upon him) (Al-Hijrah).

After the second pledge of Aqabah, the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) ordered the Muslims who were with him in Makkah to leave for Madinah. He could no longer see the Muslims suffer at the hands of the Quraish.

The emigration from Makkah to Madinah was not easy. The Quraish put many obstacles to stop the Muslims from leaving Makkah. Some Muslims were forced to leave their wives and children behind, and to travel alone. Others had to leave all of their belongings and travel empty handed.

On the 27th of Safar, the 14th year of Prophethood, i.e. 12/13 September 622 A.D., Allah gave permission to the Prophet (peace be upon him) to travel to Madinah. Abu Bakr the Prophet’s close friend accompanied him on this blessed journey.

Earlier on that day, the Quraish had gathered to make one final attempt to kill the Prophet (peace be upon him). They agreed that each tribe would provide a young man and together they would attack the Prophet (peace be upon him), each man striking a blow. Allah informed His Messenger of this plot, and he (peace be upon him) secretly left the house without the Quraish men noticing him.

Over the years, the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) had developed such a reputation for honesty that the unbelieving Quraish would leave their valuables with him, to look after. Before leaving, the Prophet (peace be upon him) charged Ali with the responsibility of returning all the properties to its rightful owners.
